On 10 November 2022, in an official ceremony in the Tokyo Imperial Palace, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia, Zigmārs Zilgalvis, presented a letter of credence to His Majesty Emperor of Japan Naruhito.
During a conversation with His Majesty, the Ambassador underlined the friendly relations between Latvia and Japan and he expressed commitment to the promotion of political, economic and cultural contacts between the two countries.
HM the Emperor Naruhito expressed satisfaction with the good Japanese-Latvian cooperation. His Majesty made a special mention of culture, pointing out that the talent of Latvian artists was highly appreciated in Japan. The Emperor invited the Ambassador to get to know Japan as well as possible during his term of office in order to bring our countries and people closer together.
In this ambassadorial posting, Zigmārs Zilgalvis succeeds Dace Treija-Masī, who had been Ambassador to Japan since 2018.
