Sanita Pavļuta-Deslandes un António Guterres

On August 22, 2023, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Sanita Pavļuta-Deslandes, submitted her letter of credence to the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Latvia’s active participation in the UN and engagement on issues that Latvia holds important: peace and security, gender equality, sustainable development, as well as combating disinformation. Sanita Pavļuta-Deslandes emphasized Latvia’s unwavering support to Ukraine and a firm position on holding the Russian Federation accountable for its crimes.

“As Latvia has been undergoing the process of transformation since regaining independence 32 years ago, we have reached international maturity. That is why we are running for the position of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in order to contribute our experience and knowledge to addressing critical global issues,” the Ambassador emphasized.

The UN Secretary-General praised the ongoing cooperation with Latvia and pledged a close cooperation on the part of the UN Secretariat in resolving current matters.
