Consular section

On 14 September 2015 the Visa Information System (VIS) becomes operational in Russia. In practice, this means that as of that day, visa applicants will have to appear in person when lodging an application for a short-stay Schengen visa in order to provide their biometric data (fingerprints).

Finger scans are not required from children under the age of 12.Travellers to the Schengen Area do not have to give new finger scans every time they apply for a new visa. Once finger scans are stored in VIS, they can be re-used for further visa applications over a 5-year period.

Applications for Schengen visa could be submitted directly at the Visa Application Center in Moscow
by the following address: Nizhny Susalny side-street 5, building 19 (metro station Kurskaya, circle line).
