The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has evaluated applications submitted for the grant competition entitled “Support for Development Cooperation Projects in designated recipient countries” and has awarded financing (grants) for the following projects to be implemented in 2022 and 2023 in the countries prioritised by the Republic of Latvia.
For the first time, it was also possible to apply for grants to projects with the period of implementation of two years – 2022 and 2023. The total annual funding made available for the projects is EUR 924 410, which is almost four times higher than in 2021. This enables the Foreign Ministry to award financing to a considerably larger number of project applications: nineteen projects are to receive full or partial support, seven of those, over the period of two years.
Support for Ukraine had been set as the main priority, and support was granted fully or in part to eight applications. For the first time in the competition, funding was also awarded to a project in Africa. Focus is still retained on the European Union’s Eastern Partnership countries, and the Foreign Ministry awarded grants to three projects in Moldova, one in Georgia, and to two regional scale schemes. Support is still essential for the Central Asian region, where funding has been allocated to four projects.
