On April 10, the Ambassador of Latvia Andris Teikmanis, joined by other honorary consuls and the Latvian community, officially opened the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Atlanta, Georgia. The Honorary Consul Mr Kevin Casebier had already been fulfilling his duties since the fall of 2017. The new honorary consulate has also encouraged the local Latvian community to found their own Atlanta Latvian Association. The Latvian diaspora in Georgia consists mainly of young professional and students.
Georgia has one of the fastest growing economies in the United States, and in 2017, it received the highest Doing Business rating for the fourth time. Atlanta, the capital of Georgia and the location of the new Latvian honorary consulate, is the main business hub in the southeast of the United States. Fortune 500 companies such as UPS, Delta, Coca Cola Company, FirstData, Suntrust and others have located their headquarters in the city. According to the 2017 data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, trade between Latvia and Georgia went over 30 million USD in 2017, of which 22.7 million USD was Latvian exports and 8.4 million USD – US imports.
Honorary Consul of Latvia Kevin Casebier was born in 1957 and has more than 20 years of business experience, mostly in business consulting (including Fortune 500 companies) and in the real estate area. He has worked for companies such as Bullards Development, Baer Group and Advanco. Casebier holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Louisville, a master’s degree in business and commerce from Regis University and he has also attended Harvard University.
