Largest Latvian-US business conference Spotlight Latvia to take place in Chicago

The Latvian-U.S. business conference Spotlight Latvia will take place on October 26 at Waldorf Astoria Chicago. The conference, in the number of participants, will be the largest in the history of bilateral relations.

Ambassador of Latvia to the United States HE Mr Andris Teikmanis and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economics Mr Arvils Ašeradens will deliver the opening remarks. More than 40 Latvian business representatives will accompany the Deputy Prime Minister.

Latvian companies will present themselves to an audience of more than 100 U.S. companies. There will be overall seven sessions by Latvian companies – talking about the existing and potential success stories of US companies operating in Latvia, and vice versa. In terms of industry representation, special attention will be paid to Latvian ITC companies, manufacturers, food producers, as well as transport and logistics companies. Latvian start-up companies will present their ideas in a special shark-tank session nearing the end of the conference.

The conference will be marked by a special event – the launching of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce in the United States (LatCham). Its main goal is to unite under one umbrella those Latvian companies that are operating in the U.S., as well as those American companies that are located in Latvia. LatCham has already brought together several company representatives from the Latvian diaspora, but it is open to other potential members both from Latvia and from the U.S.

Spotlight Latvia will feature such major Latvian companies as Valmiera Glass, SAF Tehnika, Jauda and Latvijas Finieris in the manufacturing area; Latvian Railways (Latvijas Dzelzceļš), airBaltic, Sonora, Kreiss in the transport and logistics area; Amber Beverage Group, Aloja-Starkelsen, Food Union, Orkla, Pure Food in the food production industry; as well as Tilde, Blue Bridge Technologies, Anatomy Next and Meditec in the ITC area. Ms Baiba Rubesa, chairperson of the RB Rail management board, will be the lunchtime speaker. She will inform U.S. companies about the development of the largest Baltic infrastructure project and procurement opportunities.

Since the reestablishment of independence 27 ago, Latvia, a country on the shores of the Baltic Sea, has achieved remarkable success in restructuring its economy and discovering new markets. Latvia is a member of the world’s largest trading bloc the European Union, NATO security alliance, the Eurozone and the club of most advanced economies – the OECD. The Government of Latvia has recently adopted particularly favorable legislation for start-up businesses. In collaboration with neighboring EU member states, Latvia will soon launch a major regional rail infrastructure project Rail Baltic connecting several capitals. The government has implemented liberalization of the natural gas market.
