A poetry collection by Juris Kronbergs, “The Cloud Book”, presented in Korea

From 18 to 21 October 2019, the Latvian poet and translator, Juris Kronbergs, visited Korea, where he offered a diverse programme of literary events in the city of Seoul and nearby for both young readers and professionals engaged in the literary field.

The programme began with an interactive poetry at the National Library Children and Young Adults. Together with children, the poet read poems from his collection, “The Cloud Book”, published in the Korean language in 2018. Besides reading poems in Latvian and Korean, the children were encouraged to “create their own clouds” and share their observations.

Juris Kronbergs also met with students from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Yongin, where he delivered a lecture on Latvian literature.

At the conclusion of his visit, the poet met with professionals in the Korean literary world, including poets, writers, illustrators, translators, publishers and literary media, at an event in the Latvian Embassy in Korea, where he spoke about Latvian literature, read poetry and made a presentation of the Korean edition of “The Cloud Book”, as well as providing a brief insight into a humorous collection of poems titled “Pants of Time.”

Juris Kronbergs also gave an interview to Arirang TV, the leading South Korean English-language television network.

The events drew great attention and enthusiasm from the audiences and helped promote Latvian contemporary literature in Korea as well as expanding the awareness and knowledge of Latvia and its culture among the Korean public.

The visit by Juris Kronbergs to Korea was arranged by the Latvian Embassy in the Republic of Korea with support from the State Culture Capital Foundation.
