Today, on 22 November, Latvian Ambassador Pēteris Vaivars visited Chuncheon, the capital of the province of Gangwon (in February this year, the province hosted the Winter Olympic Games), where he met with the province Governor, CHOI Moon-soon. The aim of the meeting was to present the Governor with a photography album created by the Latvian Olympic Committee about the performance of Latvian athletes in PyeongChang and to discuss future opportunities for collaboration.
The Governor spoke with appreciation of the stay of Raimonds Vējonis, President of the Republic of Latvia, in the Gangwon province and the participation of Latvia in the Winter Olympic Games. He acknowledged the bright performance of the Latvian delegation and the emotions it offered during the Olympic Games. Governor Choi also voiced his support for a shared application from Sigulda and Stockholm to host the 2026 Winter Games and said he intended to visit Latvia in the near future. The Ambassador confirmed that the Governor would be gladly welcomed to Latvia and invited him to arrive with a business delegation in order to seek new possibilities for collaboration towards economic development.
SHIM Ki-joon, Vice-Head of the Korean-Latvian parliamentary cooperation group, who was elected to the Parliament of the Republic of Korea from that election district, also participated in the meeting.
