The Ambassador meets the director of J.K Tyl theatre in Plzen

Within the framework of her visit to Plzen, the Ambassador Argita Daudze met Jan Burian, the director of Josef Kajetán Tyl theatre.

They discussed issues related to the cooperation of Latvian and Plzen theatres. Jan Burian, the director of Josef Kajetán Tyl theatre, showed particular acknowledgement of the "New Riga Theatre", which participated in Plzen international theatre festival "Theatre" on 2005 and 2007 with plays "Long Life" and "Sonia" by Alvis Hermanis. Both plays were positively rated by visitors and critics as well.

The director mentioned that he would like to see the "New Riga Theatre" in next year's international theatre festival in Plzen and asked the Ambassador to assist with obtaining financial aid from Latvia to ensure the participation of the "New Riga Theatre".

The origins of J.K. Tyl theatre date back to mid 19th century and up to nowadays it has remained as an important culture institution in Plzen region. It offers to the viewers different performances: plays, operas, ballets, operettas and musicals. The number of viewers in last year was around 200,000.
