On March 13, 2019, the Latvian Ambassador Gunta Pastore met with the Chairman of the Interparliamentary Group for cooperation with the Republic of Latvia Mr. Ondřej Veselý.
G. Pastore said there is a good basis for the continuation of the parliamentary cooperation between the both states – in the Latvian Parliament a group for cooperation with the Czech Republic has been established recently. It is led by Jānis Vucāns and it is composed of 12 members.
O.Veselijs confirmed the Czech Interparliamentary Group for cooperation with the Republic of Latvia, which has been established in the previous parliamentary term, is going to continue the great cooperation with the Latvian Saeima. He intends to visit Latvia in the future. Since the deputy comes from the Czech town Písek which has an excellent cooperation with the Latvian town Smiltene, he will continue in cooperation also between these two municipalities.
During the meeting an opportunity to hold parliamentary consultations on the issues of the European Union was discussed. O.Veselijs as the Vice-chairman of the Committee on European Affairs would be interested in such consultations.
The Ambassador expressed her gratitude for an invitation of the Committee on Defence of the Czech Parliament to the Committee on Defence of the Latvian Saeima in order to carry out a visit to the Czech Republic as a response to an already conducted visit of the Czech Committee on Defence to Latvia. The Committee on Defence of the Latvian Saeima considers to visit the Czech Republic in this autumn.
