On November 16, 2018, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, a concert of international and Latvian classical music performed by children’s string orchestra Penguin from the Basic School of Art (ZUŠ) Náchod took place in the Czech Museum of Music in Prague. The Basic School of Art is located in the Latvian city Bauska’s twin town Náchod, which maintains traditionally close relationship with the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia. Listening to the music of Jānis Mediņš, Emīls Dārziņš, Imants Kalniņš and other composers, Latvians, Czech friends of Latvia and the Diplomatic Corps in the Czech Republic enjoyed a special Centenary’s atmosphere. Children’s outstanding performance as well as the Melancholy Waltz they played moved the audience. After the concert, everybody had the opportunity to put a postcard with wishes for Latvia on the special wall which is going to be placed in the Latvian Cultural centre at the premises of the Embassy.
