On July 24, the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia has organised a Concert of Tihovskis family (Tihovsku ģimene) at the Czech Museum of Music. During the concert, both so-called classic folksongs and popular Latvian songs were performed. Musicians from the Latvian town Ludza – Dace, Laima and Dagnis Tihovski won the Latvian television LNT contest “Singing family” in 2012. The concert “My Wonderful Homeland” in Prague was devoted to the Centenary of Latvia and it also reflected the just celebrated Song and Dance Festival, amazing Latvian festivities with the grand total of 43,000 singers, dancers, musicians and other artists.
“Prague is historically rich and beautiful, a town of rich historical tradition. Besides the sounds of classical music we can listen here the popular melodies of different nations. This time songs and melodies are coming from the northern country Latvia,” Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia Alberts Sarkanis noticed in his address. “Five years of my diplomatic mission in Czechia have passed. In recent years a lot of social, economic, security and political challenges influenced life both in Europe and all around the world. Life has become more intensive. There are still values which remain and which should remain above all challenges. It is human relations with their roots in each individual and each national culture and traditions. We should remember this both celebrating and living everyday life. Being in diplomatic service for a longer period of time, it is obvious I meet my colleagues from the past again and again. Therefore, while we are alive and live this life it would be worth mentioning Croatian song-writer’s Bratislav Zlatanovič words: „Never say ‘adieu’, only ‘au revoir’.
Many foreign diplomats accredited in Prague as well as representatives of Czech governmental and non-governmental organizations and members of Czech-Latvian Club attented the event.
