On 14 and 15 November, III. International Scientific Conference „National Minorities, Identity, Tradition and Education in a European Context” was held in Prague. This conference was organized by the Institute of Contemporary History with support of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture and the Center for Slovak Minority in Czech Republic. Conference was already for the second time opened by the speech of Latvian ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš. In the time of raising right wing extremism in numerous European countries in relation with slow economic growth and high unemployment, has this conference special importance.
Latvia was represented by specialists for the national minorities from the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of Academy of Science in Riga, University in Riga and University in Daugavpils – M. Kiope, V. Volkovs, S. Krūmiņa-Koņkova and I. Šuvajes. Conference was attended by representatives from Latvia, Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine.
