On Tuesday, June 7 the Ambassador of Latvia to the Czech Republic, Kaspars Ozoliņš, visited Pilsen. During the official visit Mr. Ozoliņš met Governor of Pilsen County Mr. Milan Chovanec and his deputies, the Deputy Mayors of the City of Pilsen Mrs. Eva Herinková and Mr. Peter Rund, and the directors of project Pilsen 2015 Mrs. Ivona Kreuzmannová and Mr. Milan Svoboda. The Ambassador also visited Škoda Transportation company and the Pilsner Urquell Brewery.
The purpose of visit was to make acquaintance of the City and County of Pilsen, to exchange further information and to discuss opportunities for further cooperation between Riga and Pilsen related to the project of European Capital of Culture, and to give specific proposals for coollaboration between art schools in Latvian cities and in the County of Pilsen.
During the meeting at Pilsen City Hall K. Ozoliņš congratulated the city representatives on winning the status of the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) in 2015. The city had been awarded on May 19, 2011 by the European Commission. Also, the Ambassador confirmed the interest of the Embassy on cooperation between Riga, Latvia and Pilsen. Since September last year there exists a strong collaboration and information exchange between the Latvian Embassy and Pilsen, all dedicated to ECOC. It is important to note that there was a significant cooperation in May 2011 on the exhibition of Riga Art Nouveau architecture.
Mr. Jaromír Jelínek, Sales Manager of Škoda Transportation a.s., familiarized the Ambassador of Latvia with factory production and manufacture possibilities including the process of streetcar production for the Latvian capital. They both discussed future possibilities of spare parts and vehicle supply for Riga.
