Human rights, the rule of law, regional security, and Canada’s international missions were part of the fruitful discussion between Ambassador Kārlis Eihenbaums and Ms Annamie Paul, the Leader of the Green Party of Canada, on June 29, 2021.

Among these topics of mutual interest in today's virtual meeting, the Canadian led NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia received particular attention.

Ambassador Eihenbaums noted that Latvia has warmly welcomed Canada’s contribution to global peace and stability. “Canada has led all NATO troops in Latvia during deterrence exercises for more than four years and is very welcome to continue”, he said.

Ms Annamie Paul stressed the importance of international organisations like NATO, the significance of Canada’s international engagements and role. Ambassador Eihenbaums observed that the issues we see on other continents are not just in someone else’s backyard – they are global problems.
