Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs places 118 public officials of the Republic of Belarus on persona non grata list

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, has taken the decision to ban travel to Latvia for 118 citizens of the Republic of Belarus for an indefinite period of time.
This decision was coordinated with the Foreign Ministries of Estonia and Lithuania.

The entry ban has been imposed on public officials from institutions connected with the ministries of interior and justice as well as regional administrative institutions in Belarus.

These particular officials have taken part in the violent suppression of peaceful protests in the aftermath of the presidential election of 9 August 2020 which was not recognized by the EU.

An entry ban has been imposed on 277 separate individuals in connection with the above-mentioned events in Belarus.

The Foreign Minister’s decision has been taken in accordance with Paragraph 61(2) of the Law on Immigration.

The following individuals have now been placed on the list of persona non grata in Latvia:
