On 28 September 2020, at an official ceremony in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented credentials to the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Hellenic Republic, Pēteris Kārlis Elferts.
Pēteris Kārlis Elferts began working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1999. In the course of his career, he has held various posts, including those of Parliamentary Secretary, Ambassador-at-Large for the renewal of Iraq and promotion of democracy; Permanent Representaive of Latvia to the Council of Europe; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Ireland; as well as being foreign affairs advisor to the Speaker of the Saeima (Latvian Parliament). Pēteris Kārlis Elferts was elected as a member to the 5th Saeima, and served as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Latvia. Since 2016, he has been Latvia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey.
The Ambassador has graduated from Washington University in the U.S. and has attended various international educational courses. Pēteris Kārlis Elferts has been decorated with the Cross of Recognition, Second Class, and a number of other awards.
Ambassador Elferts is succeeding Māris Klišāns, who has been representing Latvia’s interests in the Hellenic Republic since 2017.
