State Secretary thanks French Ambassador for her great contribution to the development of relations between Latvia and France

On 25 May 2020, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the Ambassador of France, Odile Soupison, on the occasion of a farewell visit upon completion of her posting in Latvia.

Andris Pelšs extolled the Ambassador’s personal contribution to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Latvia and France. The diplomats welcomed the excellent and constructive cooperation between the two countries and successful implementation of the Action Plan of the Political Declaration on the Latvia–France Strategic Partnership for 2018–2022. 

During the Ambassador’s time in Rīga, she was actively engaged in organizing several visits of Latvian and French officials. The main public diplomacy event in art and culture for Latvia in France was an exhibition of Symbolism in the Baltic States, Âmes sauvages (Wild Souls), at the Musée d’Orsay, which was opened on 9 April 2018 by the Presidents of Latvia and France. This was a special visit with both symbolic and historic significance.

Andris Pelšs noted the substantial contribution by France to the strengthening of security in the Baltic region and he praised the annual French-Baltic consultations concentrating on matters of security and the European Union.

Ambassador Soupison thanked Latvia for support offered by its public authorities and for excellent cooperation.

The French Ambassador was accredited to Latvia on 22 October 2016.
