On 18 December 2019 in the evening, the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has announced the lifting of sanctions on Freeport of Ventspils and Ventspils Freeport Authority. The United States took the decision following intensive talks with the Latvian Embassy in Washington, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions, as well as reviewing the measures taken and planned by Latvia to irrevocably curb the influence of the designated individual on the Freeport of Ventspils and Ventspils Freeport Authority.
As a result, Freeport of Ventspils, Ventspils Freeport Authority and companies operating in the port can carry on their work unhindered.
At the same time, it should be taken into account that no changes have been made to the U.S. decision imposing sanctions upon the Ventspils Development Agency (Ventspils Attīstības Aģentūra), the Business Development Agency (Biznesa Attīstības Asociācija) and the Latvian Transit Business Association (Latvijas Tranzīta Biznesa Asociācija).
