On 25 November 2019, the European Union House hosted a European Information Day, “Green. Digital. Social”, and welcoming remarks at the beginning of the event were offered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, Marta Rībele, Head of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Latvia, and Andris Kužnieks, Acting Head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia.

European Union information providers from all over Latvia were briefed about the issues of current importance for the EU. Edgars Rinkēvičs noted in his speech that “Green. Digital. Social” is in line with the vision Latvia has of the course the EU should be following as it moves forward. We should take into account, said the Foreign Minister, that global challenges also bring new lines of thought into the talks on the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework. Achieving climate neutrality will be a challenge to all EU Member States, including Latvia; therefore, it is vital to put support mechanisms in place. Quicker adaptation means opening broader opportunities for Latvia to mobilise additional funding, Edgars Rinkēvičs underlined.

The aim of the European Union Information Day is to provide, in an interactive manner, the latest updates on EU-related matters and promote experience-sharing between EU information providers.

The Information Day brought together contact persons engaged in EU-related outreach activities in central and local government institutions, the staff of EU Information Points (ESIP) and the Europe Direct Information Centres (EDIC), members of EU information networks as well as NGOs, and opinion leaders. The event is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Parliament Liaison Office in Latvia and the European Commission Representation in Latvia.
