On 25 November 2019, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, will take part in the meeting of the European Union (EU) Foreign Affairs Council (Development) in Brussels, Belgium.
The consolidation and streamlining of EU financial architecture for development cooperation is currently high on EU agenda; therefore, the Council is expected to discuss further steps. Reform will be considered based on a report by the Wise Persons Group on the future of the European financial architecture for development.
The meeting will also include a discussion on how the EU and Member States can work better together to support countries in transition – Ethiopia and Sudan. Special focus will be placed on the promotion of economic stability of the two countries and attracting investments. In the context of gender equality and education-related issues, the representatives of Member States will discuss learning challenges and opportunities in Africa.
