On 21 October 2019, State Secretary Andris Pelšs met with the Ambassador Jana Hynková, who had come for an introductory visit. State Secretary Pelšs and Ambassador Hynková discussed bilateral relations and cooperation on strengthening security.
Andris Pelšs expressed appreciation for the close bilateral relations between Latvia and the Czech Republic, the active dialogue between the governments and parliaments of the two countries and the good cooperation between local authorities and civil society organisations. The State Secretary and the Ambassador underlined that it was important to strengthen cooperation at all levels and continue deepening the political dialogue. The Ambassador highlighted the active cultural cooperation and expressed interest in promoting inter-ministerial cooperation.
The State Secretary expressed appreciation for the Czech Republic’s contribution to the strengthening of security across the region and for the participation of Czech troops in the NATO multinational battle group in Ādaži as well as in the Baltic Air Policing mission. Andris Pelšs accented that Latvia and the Czech Republic are like-minded countries and close partners in the European Union and NATO.
Referring to economic cooperation, the State Secretary acknowledged that the Czech Republic is an important trade partner with good potential for cooperation in innovation and emerging technologies. Andris Pelšs expressed satisfaction that a contract has been signed with a Czech company, Škoda Vagonka, on the delivery of new rolling stock to Latvia.
