State Secretary and the German Ambassador to Latvia discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation

On 14 October 2019, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the new Ambassador of Germany to Latvia, Nikolai von Schoepff, who had arrived on an introductory visit. The State Secretary congratulated the Ambassador on his new posting, wishing that his time in Latvia be rich and fruitful in joint projects.   

The diplomats agreed that Latvia and Germany had established a close and intensive political dialogue and excellent cooperation in business, culture and education. The State Secretary noted the considerable contribution by Germany to the strengthening of security in the region and he praised Germany’s support for the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence in Riga and for projects of the Baltic Centre for Media Excellence.

The German Ambassador expressed his determination to move ahead with the development and expansion of the good relationship between Germany and Latvia, especially the promotion of business cooperation and attraction of investments.

Nikolai von Schoepff has been working in the German Foreign Service since 1993 serving at the embassies in Ukraine, Romania, Russia and the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York. He has also been posted as Ambassador of Germany to the United Arab Emirates and to Cyprus.
