On 2 October 2019, at the opening session of the annual Warsaw Security Forum, the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, characterised the Three Seas Initiative as a good platform for promoting regional economic cooperation and improving infrastructure connections, energy resource supply and energy security, underlined in Poland.
The Minister noted that the Three Seas Initiative was an element supplementing the integration of the EU, which helps strengthen the capacity of the region’s countries to find solutions to the present-day challenges. In addition, in the Minister’s opinion, the Three Seas Initiative has a major role in strengthening the transatlantic link. Edgars Rinkēvičs noted that projects implemented under the Three Seas Initiative should be in line with both national and common European values. Projects carried out in the energy, digital and transport sectors should be sustainable, striving for strategic long-term goals.
During the Warsaw Security Forum, Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee, David Harris, for a discussion on transatlantic cooperation and current developments in the EU.
The Minister also took part in one of the forum’s side events – a thematic discussion, where he presented Latvia’s position on issues of current importance in foreign and security policy.
