On 30 August 2019, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, Josep Borrell Fontelles, who will be in Latvia for a working visit.
The Foreign Ministers intend to discuss bilateral cooperation and EU and security issues of current importance, as well as sharing views on developments in the EU’s Southern and Eastern neighbourhoods.
As part of his stay, the Spanish Foreign Minister will visit Camp Ādaži military base to meet with the Spanish soldiers serving in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence battle group in Latvia.
The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell Fontelles, has been nominated by the European Council for the post of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The European Parliament is expected to approve the High Representative, together with other members of the European Commission and the Commission President, this autumn.
