At its 68th session from 20 to 21 November 2019, the United Nations Committee against Torture (Committee) will examine the periodic report on the implementation of the United Nations 1984 Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (Convention) in Latvia during the period from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2016 (periodic report) and its annexes.

In order to provide the Committee with comprehensive information on the implementation of the Convention in Latvia and to promote a quality dialogue with the Committee experts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites all civil society organisations to submit, directly to the Secretariat of the Committee by 14 October 2019, their opinions on information contained in the periodic report and on what Latvia has accomplished in the eradication of violence. The ways of involvement of civil society actors have been set out in detail in a handbook published on the UN website.

The text of the periodic report and its annexes are available on the Committee’s website.
