During a special ceremony held at Riga Castle on 1 August 2019, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented letters of credence to Andris Razāns, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Belgium.
Andris Razāns began his career in the Latvian Foreign Service in 1992. He served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Latvia to the Kingdom of Sweden. Later, he became Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America and Denmark as well as being non-resident Ambassador of Latvia to Mexico and the Kingdom of Morocco. From 2010 to 2012, he was Political Director and Under-Secretary of State at the Latvian Foreign Ministry. And from 1998-2000, he was the Foreign Affairs Advisor to the President of Latvia. Currently, Andris Razāns is Head of the Planning Group at the Latvian Foreign Ministry.
Andris Razāns has a Master’s degree in history. He is fluent in English, Russian and Swedish and speaks also German, Danish, Norwegian, and French.
