State Secretary Andris Pelšs underlines the importance of economic cooperation in relationship with Belarus

On 3 June 2019, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andris Pelšs, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Oleg Kravchenko, met for political consultations in Riga.

Andris Pelšs welcomed the development of mutual economic relations and expressed appreciation of the constructive openness of Belarus in the bilateral matters of security policy. Oleg Kravchenko, for his part, emphasised that he highly valued support provided by Latvia in helping Belarus to build and develop a dialogue with the European Union and other Western partners.

The consultations also covered a broad range of topics concerning bilateral and regional cooperation, including the further political dialogue and exchange visits, the human rights situation in Belarus, economic cooperation, the security situation in the region, further development of relationship between Belarus and the European Union, and other foreign policy issues.

Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Belarus is a regular format for sharing opinions on latest developments in bilateral relations and international politics.  

The previous political consultations between the Latvian and Belarusian Ministries of Foreign Affairs took place in Minsk on 9 February 2018.
