On 15 May 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, chaired the regular meeting of the Foreign Economic Policy Coordination Council. The Council discussed the currently scheduled and planned visits by senior officials of state and government, focusing on visits that pursue the aim of advancing Latvia’s economic interests in the international market.
The nearest visit is that by Edgars Rinkēvičs to Vietnam and Indonesia on from 16 to 19 July. To prepare the visit, on 14 June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia will hold a seminar on business opportunities in Southeast Asia.
At the Council, Edgars Rinkēvičs reported to its member institutions and organisations representing the interests of businesses on the Foreign Ministry’s plans for expanding the network of the Latvian diplomatic missions and outlined the immediate goals of the Foreign Service. The Council agreed to continue identifying priority countries for opening new embassies.
The Minister of Economy, Ralfs Nemiro, informed the Council about the possibilities of optimizing the network of Latvia’s external economic representations and the future model of financing.
The Foreign Economic Policy Coordination Council is a collegiate and coordinating institution, which ensures a concerted action by public authorities and other institutions in building a successful external economic policy.
