On 15 April 2019, the State Secretary Andris Pelšs met with the non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Latvia, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Ghaffar, who is staying in Latvia on an accreditation visit.
During the discussion, the officials discussed the possibilities of activating bilateral relations, including by extending economic cooperation and the contractual base, as well as promoting the exchange of knowledge between the two countries.
The accreditation visit to the President of Latvia is scheduled for 16 April.
Muhammad Abdul Ghaffar is Bahrain's first appointed Ambassador to Latvia, and his place of residence is Paris, France.
The Ambassador began his career in the diplomatic service of the Kingdom of Bahrain in 1975. He has been the diplomatic advisor to the King of Bahrain, as well as the Minister of State for Information and Foreign Affairs. He performed his duties as Ambassador in Belgium, Luxembourg, the United States, Canada, Argentina, the United Nations in New York.
Latvia and the Kingdom of Bahrain established diplomatic relations on 27 March 2000 in New York.
