On 12 April 2019, the European Union (EU) Information Providers Forum was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bringing together twice a year the EU information providers: national and local government EU information contacts, representatives of the EU Information Points (ESIP) and the Europe Direct Information Centres (EDIC), the EU information networks leaders, opinion leaders, the European club in schools, media, NGO, as well as representatives of the private sector.

During the opening of the EU Information Providers Forum, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed that action, personal relations, feelings reach far more people than just dry facts, figures and arguments. Calling for active cooperation and involvement in shaping Europe's future, the Parliamentary Secretary urged: “We must not be indifferent, because the resulting passivity becomes the black hole in which the important for us - our values, ideas, power - is disappearing. It is necessary to participate in the European elections and to encourage others to do so."

Members of the Forum were also addressed by Marta Rībele, the Head of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Latvia, and Andris Kužnieks, the Acting Head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia. The work of the Forum was chaired by Andris Gobiņš, the President of the European Movement in Latvia.

The former President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, the Deputy Director General in the Directorate General of Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission Normunds Popens and professors of the University of Latvia Žaneta Ozoliņa and Daunis Auers have been speaking about the benefits and challenges of Latvia as the full-fledged EU Member State for now 15 years.

The participants also had the opportunity to listen to the latest information and assessment of the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU and to acquire practical skills to address EU issues qualitatively and to involve different audiences.

The EU Information Providers Forum has been held since 2008 and is organised by the European Movement in Latvia in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the European Parliament in Latvia and the representation of the European Commission in Latvia.
