On 4 April 2019, on the sidelines of the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Ine Eriksen Søreide, for a discussion on bilateral relations between the two countries, the agenda of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and updates on international relations.
Edgars Rinkēvičs praised the close cooperation between Latvia and Norway in the fields of defence, economy and culture, especially Latvian-Norwegian cooperation at the regional level. The ministers also exchanged views on the possibilities for fishing that stem from the international maritime law.
Minister Rinkēvičs invited the Foreign Minister of Norway to take part in the concluding event for the Latvian Presidency of the CBSS, which Latvia intends to hold this coming June. In that format, the countries will have the opportunity to talk about challenges and search for balance between political dialogue and practical cooperation, and identify synergies with other regional formats, including through discussions on CBSS future.
