The heads of Latvia’s diplomatic missions abroad and Latvian ambassadors residing in Riga will convene for their annual meeting in Riga from 18 to 20 December 2018.
The meeting will be officially opened on 18 December by the Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs and the Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis.
The Ambassadors are to meet President Raimonds Vējonis; the Speaker of the Saeima, Ināra Mūrniece; the Chair of the Constitutional Court, Ineta Ziemele; the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Arvils Ašeradens; the Minister of Defence, Raimonds Bergmanis; the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Kaspars Ozoliņš; and other public officials.
The day before the official launch of the meeting, the Ambassadors will hold working sessions to discuss Latvia’s interests in international organisations, Central Asia, the Middle East and Asia, and to share views on the diaspora policy and opportunities for higher education export.
During a field trip, the Ambassadors will visit the RTU Design Factory – an innovation and business platform at the Riga Technical University, with its prototyping facilities, the best equipped in the Baltics, where students and a team of highly skilled experts work on the development of innovative products in partnership with Latvian companies, organisations and researchers. Then, at the airBaltic training centre, the visitors will discuss the opportunities and advantages of transport connectivity.
The meeting of the heads of Latvian diplomatic missions is an annual event at which priorities and current tasks for the Foreign Service are discussed. The meeting will also be attended by foreign affairs advisors to highest-ranking officials, and the Foreign Ministry staff.
