On 6 December 2018, in an official ceremony in Prague, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia, Gunta Pastore, submitted her credentials to the President of the Czech Republic, Miloš Zeman.
In a conversation with the Czech President, the Ambassador expressed satisfaction at the bilateral relations between the two countries and thanked the Czech Republic for its contribution to the strengthening of security in the Baltic Sea region. Czech troops are participating in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence battle group in Latvia, and they will carry out the Baltic Air Policing mission in 2019.
The officials also discussed political and economic cooperation between Latvia and the Czech Republic. President Zeman underlined in particular the role of the economic diplomacy, which is highly important due to its support for businesses of both countries.
The accreditation of the new Ambassador is taking place against the backdrop of Latvia and the Czech Republic celebrating significant national holidays – 100 years since the establishment of independent states of Latvia and Czechoslovakia in 1918.
