On 9 November 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts a discussion on the role and place of the Latvian language in the European Union. The eleventh annual conference entitled “The Latvian Language in the European Union: Language as the main translation tool, aspect and value” is to address the issues of language and translation at the European Union institutions.
This year’s event is devoted to language and its importance in any translator’s work. The conference also includes panel discussions where professionals and experts will share opinions on the topics of language, terminology and cooperation with translators.
The conference was opened by Solveiga Silkalna, Under-Secretary of State for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Andris Kužnieks, Acting Head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia.
Presentations will be delivered by Professor Māris Baltiņš, Director of the State Language Centre, and Liena Muskare, Head of Latvian Language Unit 1 at the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission.
The event has been organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Language Centre, and the European Commission Representation in Latvia.
