On 7–8 November 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts a training session on visa-related matters for consular staff from diplomatic and consular missions of Latvia abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organises consular officers’ training in visa issues on an annual basis. This year, after a longer break, training is also held for locally contracted personnel who perform technical and support functions in consular matters at diplomatic missions.

The event is aimed at improving the competences and skills of consular staff in processing visa applications and communicating with customers.

The programme includes presentations delivered by experts from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and by a lecturer from the School of Public Administration.

The present training session is organised jointly with the Ministry of the Interior as the first stage in a three-year series under a project, “Providing regional training for consular officers on EU policy for issuing uniform visas in line with the requirements of the European Visa Code”, financed by the EU Internal Security Fund.
