On 29 October 2018, the Acting State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Normans Penke, met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum, who has arrived in Riga on an accreditation visit.
The meeting addressed possibilities for strengthening bilateral relations between Latvia and Thailand, especially through promotion of economic cooperation. The Ambassador noted that Thailand was actively developing infrastructure in the country to facilitate the attraction of foreign companies.
In the conversation, Normans Penke called on Thailand to speed up its internal procedures that would include citizens of Latvia in the visa facilitation list and thereby enable them to apply for visas on arrival, for stays of up to 30 days.
On 30 October, the Ambassador is to present his credentials to the President of Latvia, Raimonds Vējonis, and meet with the Deputy Speaker of the Saeima (Latvian Parliament), Inese Lībiņa-Egnere.
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum, holds a Doctor’s degree in economics. Having begun his career with the Foreign Service in 1984, Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum was posted as Ambassador of Thailand to Sweden in April 2018 and resides in Stockholm.
