On 14 September 2018, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, will take part in the informal meeting of the European Union (EU) ministers for development cooperation in Brussels, Belgium.

Discussions at the meeting will deal with allocations to the European Union instruments for financing external action in the EU budget for 2021-2027. Another item on the agenda is the EU’s further cooperation with Africa with the aim of facilitating its socio-economic development in order to tackle the migration problem. The Member State representatives also intend to share views on the practical implementation of the link between humanitarian and development assistance: the participants will analyse progress achieved in pilot projects that have been launched in six countries affected by protracted crises – Chad, Iraq, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan, and Uganda – in 2017.
