On 6 September 2018 in Helsinki, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia, Kristīne Našeniece, presented her credentials to the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistӧ.
During the accreditation meeting, the President and the Ambassador highlighted the role of bilateral relations between Latvia and Finland in the strengthening of the European project and the efforts of Latvia to rapidly converge with the EU average living standards. The upcoming Finnish Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2019 was also discussed, as were the geopolitical situation in the world and Europe’s response, including in the field of security. The parties underlined that Latvia and Finland both belong to the Baltic-Nordic family of like-minded countries.
This coming autumn will see two visits by Finnish President Sauli Niinistö to Latvia: for participation in the informal meeting of the Arraiolos Group, and in the celebration of Latvia’s Centenary on 18 November. This is to be regarded as yet another proof of the close and friendly relationship between Latvia and Finland.
