Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs to go to Georgia

On 6–7 August, 2018, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs will make a working visit to Georgia to take part, jointly with the Lithuanian and Polish Foreign Ministers and the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, in memorial events for the anniversary of the August 2008 war that followed Russia’s aggression, and reaffirm solidarity with the Georgian people.

During the visit, Edgars Rinkēvičs will meet with the Georgian President Georgi Margvelashvili, Speaker of the Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, and Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani.

The Minister will participate in a round table discussion on sustainable peace and security held in the Georgian parliament and will visit the administrative border with South Ossetia near the village of Odzisi.  The memorial events will include a wreath laying ceremony in the Mukhatgverdi Cemetery in Tbilisi, commemorating Georgian military personnel, policemen and civilians who fell during the August war.
