The Foreign Minister of Belarus to pay a working visit to Latvia

On 19 July 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, who is coming to Latvia for a working visit. During his stay, the Belarusian Foreign Minister is also to meet with Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis, and the Deputy Speaker of the Saeima (the Latvian Parliament) Gundars Daudze, as well as visiting several companies.

The meetings will address a vast scope of bilateral relations between Latvia and Belarus: cooperation in economy, transport and transit, cross-border cooperation, education, science, culture, and other areas. The issues of the EU-Belarus relations and regional topics are also on the agenda.

Vladimir Makei has been Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus since 20 August 2012. Before that, he served as Chief of Staff for the President of Belarus, the President’s assistant, and Representative of Belarus to the Council of Europe, as well as holding various posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. Vladimir Makei has graduated from the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages and the Austrian Diplomatic Academy. The Minister speaks English, Russian and German.
