On 20 June 2018, the Permanent Representative of Latvia, Ambassador Astra Kurme, presented her credentials to the Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Adnan Z. Amin.

In the ensuing conversation, the Ambassador emphasised the rapidly growing global importance of renewable energy resources and the increasing role of the International Renewable Energy Agency. It is vital to ensure information exchange on innovative technologies between the agency’s member states in order to reduce the costs of renewable energy resources. It is essential that in the near future the agency develops into a centre for science, excellence and innovation, which could influence the resolution of issues related to global renewable energy resources and offer cooperation opportunities to its members, as well as providing the necessary assistance in project development and decision-making as concerns the management of the energy system.
