On 13 April 2018, the Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andrejs Pildegovičs, in the continuation of his working visit to Latin America, met with the Foreign Minister of Costa Rica and the Head of the EU Delegation. The Baltic ICT business mission was also continued.

In a conversation, State Secretary Pildegovičs and Manuel Gonzalez Sanz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica, agreed on the organisation of a business mission to Latvia. Both officials identified a number of common interests and similar positions on the issues of international relevance, for instance, climate change.

Andrejs Pildegovičs proposed that a convention be signed on the prevention of double taxation. Latvia also supports Costa Rica’s accession to the OECD.

Costa Rica is interested in building cooperation with Latvia in education and science, reforestation and forest conservation.

As part of his visit, State Secretary also met with Pelayo Castro, the Head of the European Union Delegation in Costa Rica, and members of the Latvian diaspora, as well as giving an interview to a Costa Rican television channel, Telefides.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers its gratitude to Juan Carlos Esquivel, a candidate to the post of Honorary Consul of Latvia, for his assistance with organising the visit.
