In an official ceremony on 25 July, the President of Latvia, Raimonds Vējonis, presented letters of credence to the designate Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Ireland, Jānis Sīlis.
Jānis Sīlis joined the Foreign Service in 1993. From 2010 to 2013, he was the Foreign Minister’s Advisor-Press Secretary, and from 2013 to 2015, held the post of the Head of Division at the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the European Union. From 2014 until the present, Jānis Sīlis has been serving as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Latvia in Georgia.
Jānis Sīlis will succeed Gints Apals, who has been Ambassador of Latvia to Ireland since 3 October 2013.
