Latvia establishes diplomatic relations with Belize

On 3 February 2005 at the Permanent Mission of Latvia to the United Nations in New York, diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Latvia and Belize.

The protocol on establishing diplomatic relations between both countries was signed by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Latvia to the UN in New York, Gints Jegermanis, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Belize to the UN in New York, Stuart W. Leslie.

After signing the protocol, both parties expressed the hope that this significant act will serve as a basis for taking actual steps to promote understanding between both countries. The possibility of appointing Latvia's Honorary Consul to Belize was also discussed.
