Today, on 9 March, at a hearing in Donetsk city court in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, as part of the ongoing illegitimate proceedings in the case of Nadiya Savchenko, a date was set for announcement of the sentence.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its strong condemnation of the illegal abduction and imprisonment of Nadiya Savchenko, her illegal transfer across internationally recognised borders and her continued illegal detention on fabricated and trumped up charges.
The Foreign Ministry calls upon Russia to release Nadiya Savchenko immediately, in accordance with Russia’s international commitments including the set of measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreement, which provides for the release of all political hostages and illegally detained persons.
In protest at her illegal detention, Nadiya Savchenko has begun an extended hunger strike. As a result, her health has seriously deteriorated and her life is at risk.
On 17 June 2014, separatists operating on Ukrainian territory, and supported by the Russian Federation, captured a Ukrainian Air Force pilot, Nadiya Savchenko, and transferred her to the Russian Federation, where she was illegally detained on accusations of murdering two Russian journalists.
