Latvia Establishes Diplomatic Relations with Sierra Leone

On 12 December 2014, diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Sierra Leone in New York city.

A Joint Communiqué on establishment of diplomatic relations was signed by Latvia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks, and, on behalf of the Republic of Sierra Leone, by Sierra Leone’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Ambassador Vandi Chidi Minah.

The Ambassadors expressed their pleasure that establishing diplomatic relations will promote co-operation at the bilateral level as well as in the framework of international organizations. The Ambassadors discussed the situation in Ukraine and the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, the priorities of Latvia’s Presidency at the Council of the EU in the first half of 2015, as well as possibilities for developing economic and trade co-operation and co-operation at the UN between Latvia and Sierra Leone.
