The Ambassador of Latvia accredited to the Kyrgyz Republic

On 17 April 2001 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia Mr Arturs Puga submitted the letter of accreditation to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr Askar Akayev.

In the conversation with the President the Ambassador underscored the accession negotiations of Latvia with the European Union and prospects of intensification of the Latvian-Kyrgyz relations in various areas, making use of the advantageous location of the two countries in the trans-continental perspective (the opportunity to use Latvia's ports; cargo transportation in both directions in the transport corridor Europe-China; opportunities for tourism etc.) President Mr Akayev pointed out that the Kyrgyz Republic is willing to develop advantageous co-operation with Latvia in economics, tourism, science, culture and other areas where both countries have traditions of good and friendly relations.
