The Third Meeting of Honorary Consuls of Latvia took place at the Embassy of Latvia in India on 14 March 2019 with participation of the Honorary Consuls from India and Nepal. Relevant political, economic, cultural and consular developments and priorities, as well as public diplomacy issues were discussed. The Honorary Consuls were introduced also about the planned and past festivities of Latvia's Centenary for the period 2018-2023, including the cultural events, publications, and other.
H.E. Ambassador of Latvia to India Mr Artis Bērtulis thanked the Honorary Consuls for their significant contribution in furthering and expanding the relations between the respective countries, including their support in organizing important visits, economic and cultural events. The Honorary Consuls also informed on recent developments, as well as expressed their continuous readiness to support relations between Latvia and India, and Latvia and Nepal, including support in organizing celebrations and events of Latvia’s Centenary and public diplomacy.
This meeting was first meeting of Honorary Consuls of Latvia on a regional scale. Latvia has three Honorary Consuls in India – Mr Narayanaswamy Ramachandran, residing in Chennai; Mr Kumara Svami Palani Balasubramaniam, residing in Bangalore; and Capt. Avinash Batra, residing in Mumbai. Mr Karan Vaidya is the Honrary Consul of Latvia in Nepal, and Mr Thomas F. Daetwyler is the Honrary Consul of Latvia in Sri Lanka. Honorary Consuls are persons, who have undertaken representative and consular functions for the benefit of the represented country, and do not receive any remuneration for their work. The network of Honorary Consuls of Latvia provide an essential support to Latvia in furthering the political, economic, cultural and consular dialogue with other countries.
