Upon the completion of his tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of India H.E. Mr. Aivars Groza hosted a farewell reception on 30 August 2018 in Bangalore.
The reception was hosted in cooperation with Mr. Kumar Swami Palani Balasubramaniam, Honorary Consul of Latvia in Karnataka. Representatives from the Diplomatic and Consular Corps and the Latvian diaspora in Bangalore, as well as Indian entrepreneurs and artists attended the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Aivars Groza mentioned that symbolically, his tenure in India coincides with the celebration of the Centenary of the Republic of Latvia. The Embassy of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of India has become fully operational and political, economic and cultural relations between the countries have intensified considerably. A substantial number of Indian students are choosing Latvia to pursue their higher education studies. In particular, Ambassador Groza highlighted the special role of Karnataka and Bangalore in Latvia – India relations and praised the personal input of the Honorary Consul of Latvia. Ambassador noted the concerts of Riga Saxophone Quartet at the reception in honour of the National Day of Latvia in Bangalore as one of the most remarkable events in Latvia – India cultural relations in 2017. He expressed his confidence that Latvia – India and Latvia – Karnataka relations will continue to grow even stronger and closer in future.
During the event a personal exhibition of paintings of Mrs. Sandra Groza, spouse of H.E. Mr. Aivars Groza, was inaugurated at the Peepletree Art Gallery. Mrs. Groza’s paintings reflect the nature and pastorals of Latvia, as well as her impressions from India, revealing the characteristics and typical colours of each country.
This is already the third exhibition of Mrs. Groza’s paintings in India. Her works have earlier been displayed at the joint art exhibition by members of the External Affairs Spouses Association and Spouses of Heads of Mission “India and the World – A Friendship through Art”, at the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Peru in New Delhi and at the farewell reception of H.E. Mr. Laimonas Telat-Kelpša, Ambassador of Lithuania to India, in March 2018.
